Lamar CISD has enacted a cap on enrollment for students in 9th-12th grades for George Ranch High School effective Sep. 25, 2023, according to an email sent out by the district on Monday. Students who exceed the cap will be rezoned and transported to Terry High School.
According to the email, the cause for this enrollment cap is necessary to prevent overflow on campus due to the growing student population. This allows for class sizes to remain at a “sustainable level.”
The district has experienced rapid growth and development in the community with an estimate of more than 48,000 new homes to be built in the next decade.
With the addition of the new schools, the district has been frequently reviewing and monitoring enrollment to keep up with the overloading instructional programs at the campus.
The district has come up with this temporary solution while in the process of continuing to work towards building new schools in the area.
Students who are affected by the cap and rezoning who do not wish to attend Terry High School, have the option to attend Lamar, Foster, or Randle. However, the district will not provide transportation for those students.
