Angel Miranda…

Sees himself in his work
Angel+Miranda...

Art is in the eye of the beholder.

Angel Miranda of class 2026 has been highlighted as one of Terry’s most impressive artists. With the skills that have progressed over the years, Miranda has created amazing pieces that have been
showcased throughout many art events that not only represent the art course of Terry High School, but him as a person.

While art has always been a part of Miranda’s life, he said the moment he fell in love with the fine art.

“I’ve been doing art since kindergarten; we usually go to art class once a week,” Miranda said. “However, I didn’t start taking art more seriously until my 8th grade year, that’s when I realized how much I really enjoy doing art. With that sudden awareness, I decided to keep learning and to pursue with the skills of art.”

15 goals Miranda has set for himself

Miranda said what it was that led him to continue with performing creative work.

“In 8th grade I won a competition, I won state for a bus drawing which I was rewarded $500 for,” Miranda said. “I eventually got the check in 9th grade and suddenly I knew, I want to take this more seriously. I bought an iPad along with the apple pen with the money so I may start drawing digitally now. But I also use it for my studies towards school.”

While Miranda was immersing himself in the craft, he found inspiration from different artists.

“I’ve seen many art styles, with being in Mexico and here, I’ve come to learn and observe many different techniques that are used,” Miranda said. “I really like Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego River’s work. I am fond of their art styles. They do 2D and a little bit of abstract with the complement of details to help with the realism.”

Studying these artists is what inspires Miranda to apply it to his work.

“There are many other artists out there, but I can’t remember what their names are,” Miranda said. “I see many little artists work and from there I kind of study what they do and apply that knowledge to my work.”

How friends light up the dark environment

Thanks to the many different techniques Miranda uses, he isn’t tied down to a specific technique.

“I love to do realistic pieces. Along with this, I find enjoyment in adding creative pieces to it,” Miranda said. “I do jump around from different techniques, I’m open to just about any type of style and form that there is in art. I will gladly go from pencil to watercolor to oil pastels. I find that any kind of style is experimental and will help teach me new things in a way.”

Art helped Miranda convey everything into his pieces as they all have meanings.

“Most of my pieces do give off a message, especially about who I am as a person. It’s either that or I go based off a theme,” Miranda said. “I have a piece for my portfolio that showcases me growing up physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. (right below).”

Out of all his pieces, his summer piece was the one to stand out in his mind.

“My Summer piece has to be my favorite, because it’s a collage style of work,” Miranda said. “I love the idea of gluing a bunch of smaller pieces together to create a big piece of art overall. It’s a portrait with several of my faces with different types of paper around. I’ve ripped newspaper, magazines, and book paper to create the collage affect.”

Miranda prefers to make art with no pressure of when to turn it in.

“Art is therapeutic, when there are no deadlines,” Miranda said. “It can be stressful when you have due dates on certain projects, but honestly, art truly does allow you to feel free in a way with no deadlines in my opinion.”

While Miranda’s future isn’t set in stone, he still wants to do something art related.

“I’m not sure yet as to what I’ll study in the future, but I do know that I want art to be a part of it,” Miranda said. “And even if I don’t have a path that includes this, I’ll still always have it as a main hobby of mines, maybe even a side hustle.”

Miranda has since come a long way and will continue to grow and improve.

“Art takes time, I didn’t find any certain style or technique that I went with straight away,” Miranda said. “If I were to bring my old sketchbook you would see how far I once was from achieving what I have now. It just takes time, patience, and hard work.”

Magazine has helped me learn to speak out more about my interests, and interact better socially. Expanding my music taste, trying out new styles, and watching Ateez content is what I do for fun. I hope that this year I can learn what it is to lead and practice new techniques.
