George Junior High meets B.F Terry High School!
There are many prejudices against fine arts when it comes to deciding electives. The beauty in performing arts is exceptionally expansive to those who are interested and offers much more than meets the eye.
Everyone in theater production, especially those who obtain the responsible roles as Thespian Officers, reached out to Terry’s feeder, George Junior High, and gave the accumulating students insight into what a high school theatre production is all about. They were taken into the auditorium’s black box and were engaged in rehearsals for the play Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe. The students were conversed in conversations about performing as an actor; like memorizing lines and creating characters, and were shown around the technician workshops. Roles of a technician such as being in charge of sound board and lighting in the booth, as well as other positions, were shown to explain the differences between forming a play in Junior High and distributing a production in High School.
Later in the visit, the students had educational conversations from one theatre kid to another. The high schoolers gave the junior kids advice for their upcoming One Act performance on October the 28th. Darren Clark, the director for Junior High, gave positive feedback to Benita Gill, the theatre director at Terry. The message was relayed from him and the young visitors that wished to reach their gratitude to the Theater Company.
Clark said, “Thank you for hosting. I was inspired, and everyone else thought it was time well spent.”
Gill hopes to invite the 7th and 8th graders again during next spring and show them how to perform and make a production of the scholastic musical, “Catch Me If You Can”. There is a distinct possibility that Gill may involve these eighth grade theatric students to perform with the high school actors and technicians. She expresses this excitement with a bit of encouraging words.
Gill said, “I believe we have a really good program growing here at terry, and I hope more and more individuals will come and check us out. I think they will find its a pretty cool place to be. We welcome theatre’s bright future!”
