“Five Nights at Freddy’s” is a iconic indie horror game created by Scott Cawthon.

This game has captivated players for years, and now eight years later it’s made its way to the big screen, and what a remarkable journey it has been. Through the delays and theories, we finally get the opportunity to lay our eyes on something fans have dreamed of. This film adaptation is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece and has some  heart-pounding suspense, impeccable storytelling, and a genuine love for the source material.

The Practical Effects and Set are A 1:1 Perfect replica of the original games and, as a fan, it’s surreal to witness the film. Director Emma Tammi has delivered a brilliant homage to the franchise that will thrill fans and newcomers alike. Even if the viewers are new to the series, they will find some thrill from this story.  From the very first frame, it’s clear that this movie is not another cash-in on a popular video game; it’s a labor of love. The attention to detail is astonishing and the filmmakers have recreated Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza with an eerie, nostalgic authenticity that fans will appreciate. The various cameos from famous YouTube and streamers is perfect fan service to us fans. The movie does a splendid job of building up to the big villain William Afton and fantastically delivers his introduction and perfected his wicked and devious character.

A few little nitpicks as a fan is the lack of bloody and horror elements like the original game. While it is present in the film, it isn’t the same eerie atmosphere as the games and instead shows the animatronics’ good side first. I disliked the typical plot victory and villainous monologue instead of going for it and ending up losing at the end. The pacing at times were off, and I especially didn’t like some of the acting as it felt over the top at times. The comedy at times didn’t deliver and kind of corny. If I were a non-biased critic, I would give it a rating of 6 out of 10.

However, it’s a treat that we even had this film in the first place. This game started so small and was a last ditch effort from the developer to this big brand new game with fans everyday to this day trying to figure out the lore. I can’t wait for a sequel, and I highly recommend this film to fans and newcomers who are discovering this story as I found it to be really entertaining despite its flaws.

I joined the magazine because I wanted to be part of something that allows me to be creative and write in general. Plus, it seemed like a great excuse to write about my interests. When I’m not at school, you’ll find me gaming or trying to cook or practice my tuba. Oh, and I bake sometimes. It’s either a hit or a miss. My goal in magazine is to get the attention of people with interesting stories as well as cover relevant topics.
